Indian poetry from Kalidas to Kaifi Azmi
‘A feast, a feast, of words from the East
From the soul of an ancient nation
With music and dance, don’t look askance
Come and join the celebration!!’
First presented
At the Bhavan Centre, London
on 22nd June 2013
Kavita K2K is based on Ancient (first half) and Modern (second half) poetry which are set to (many original) music compositions. Majority of the songs are accompanied by dance (mixture of Kathak, Odissi, Bharat natyam and contemporary styles) and the context will be presented in the form of a drama by four Actors.
The first half has pieces from Kalidaas, Jaydev, Kabirdas, Zafar etc whereas the second half has more contemporary pieces including those written by Gulzaar, Haribanshrai Bacchan and Kaifi Azmi. We have a group of very talented vocalists, dancers, and musicians and our last two shows at the Bhavan (Guldastaa and Kahata Kabir) were highly appreciated by the audience. This programme is of interest to all music lovers as it includes more traditional/ classical music pieces as well as more easy listening, contemporary and even a couple of immortal Hindi film songs.
